Sedona With a Big Dog: 11 Places Where 80 Pounds Is Not a Problem

Sedona's hiking suits a big dog perfectly. Its boutique lodging is where weight limits hide. Eleven places checked against the property's own site, including one that charges no pet fee at all.

Sedona has an unusual profile for a big dog. The hiking is superb, because the red rocks are national forest rather than a national park and leashed dogs are welcome on nearly every trail. The lodging is where it gets complicated, because Sedona is a small resort town with a lot of boutique properties, and boutique properties are where weight limits live.

Every entry below was checked against the property's own website where one was reachable. Where only third-party listings exist, that is stated plainly, because third-party listings are frequently wrong. Two examples from this research alone: one aggregator lists L'Auberge de Sedona at $75 per pet per night when the hotel's own page says $100, and another caps Amara at 30 pounds when Amara's own FAQ states no weight limit at all.

Call before you book. Always.

Verified on the property's own site, with no stated size limit

1. Hotel El Portal

No pet fee at all. Not reduced, not waived seasonally, none. Visit Sedona, the official tourism bureau, lists El Portal with no pet fees, a welcome basket, and fenced private patios. The hotel's own pet page is currently returning a server error, so the room-by-room detail it used to publish cannot be confirmed today. Ask which rooms have patios when you book.

The trade is supervision. Pets must not be left in rooms unattended for any reason, and never after 7pm. The hotel provides extra thick blankets, treats, and clean-up bags, and its restaurant serves breakfast daily and is open to the public.

For an 80-pound dog this is the strongest offer in Sedona, provided you can plan around being with your dog.

2. Sky Ranch Lodge

$25 per pet per night plus tax, with service animals free of charge. No weight limit appears in the lodge's own FAQ. The property sits high above the town with roughly six acres of walkable grounds, paved paths, and spacious balconies.

The cheapest verified option for a big dog in Sedona.

3. Arabella Sedona

$27 per night per room for up to two pets, not per pet, which makes it the best value for anyone travelling with two dogs. A portion of the fee is donated to the Sedona Humane Society.

The property has an on-site dog park, and its preferred pet-friendly rooms are located near it and are carpet free, which matters more than it sounds after a red-dust hike. No weight restriction appears in the resort's own policy page, although some third-party listings claim a 50-pound cap, so confirm when you book.

4. Amara Resort and Spa

$50 per dog per night, maximum two dogs per room. Dogs only, no cats, and a waiver is required accepting responsibility for damage or cleaning. Amara's own FAQ states no weight or size restriction, which contradicts the 30-pound cap that circulates on aggregator sites.

Pet sitting and dog walking are available through the concierge with advance notice.

5. L'Auberge de Sedona

$100 per pet per day. The most expensive on this list by a distance, and the most creekside. Dogs only, cats and all other pets are not permitted, and only designated dog-friendly accommodations are available, with service animals permitted in The Lodge and Cliffs rooms.

What you get for it: dog beds, bowls, goodie bags, leashes, and dogs welcome on the Cress Bar deck, the patio, and the Creekside Dining areas while leashed, though not inside the restaurant.

6. Matterhorn Inn

$29 per dog per night, up to two dogs at $58, in designated dog-friendly king rooms only. Queen rooms, the Matterhorn Collection, and the Owl's Nest Suite are not dog friendly. Cats are explicitly not allowed.

No weight limit is stated. Two things to note: dogs must be accompanied by their owner at all times in the room, with housekeeping only while you are present, and an undisclosed dog carries a $250 cleaning fee for rooms and $500 for suites and homes. Declare the dog at booking.

7. Sedona Village Lodge

A two-tier fee that is unusually honest about size: $25 per pet per night for toy dogs under 10 pounds, and $40 per pet per night for everything else, with no upper limit stated. Service animals are exempt.

Pets are permitted only in select rooms subject to availability, so call rather than booking blind. Animals should not be left alone in the room at any time, and an undisclosed pet can attract a penalty of up to $150 per booking.

Located in the Village of Oak Creek, roughly 15 minutes south of West Sedona and closer to Bell Rock.

Listed by third parties as taking 80-pound dogs, confirm directly

8. Southwest Inn at Sedona

Listed as welcoming two pets up to 80 pounds at $30 per pet per night, capped at $150 per week, with dogs and cats both accepted and pets permitted to be left alone in guest rooms. Pet guests are usually assigned to the first two floors for easy access to grassy relief areas.

The weekly cap is genuinely useful on a long stay, and the unattended-pets allowance is rare in Sedona. Both are worth confirming on the phone, since this comes from listings rather than the property's own page.

9. Best Western Plus Arroyo Roble Hotel and Creekside Villas

Listed as allowing two pets with an 80-pound limit, at $40 per day plus a $75 pet deposit. An Uptown location within walking distance of the shops and of Oak Creek. Confirm the deposit terms directly, since deposits and fees are the details listings get wrong most often.

Rebranded, so the old listings are pointing at the wrong name

10. Outbound Sedona, formerly Poco Diablo Resort

The property long listed as Poco Diablo Resort now operates as Outbound Sedona. It describes itself as pet friendly on its own site but does not publish weight limits, numbers, or fees, so this one is a phone call. It sits on a large site along SR 179 with more open ground than most Sedona properties, which suits a big dog.

11. The Wilde Resort and Spa, formerly Sedona Rouge

The former Sedona Rouge Hotel and Spa now operates as The Wilde Resort and Spa in West Sedona. Confirm the current pet policy directly with the property, since a rebrand is exactly when policies get rewritten and every third-party listing goes stale at once.

Where 80 pounds is a problem

Three Sedona properties commonly recommended to dog owners carry caps that rule out a large dog. Knowing them saves a wasted enquiry.

Andante Inn, listed at up to two dogs under 50 pounds for $25 per stay, with a fenced dog park and outdoor patio access at breakfast. An excellent small-dog option and no use for a Labrador.

Sedona Real Inn and Suites, listed at two dogs up to 50 pounds at $30 per pet per night, with a fenced on-site pet park.

Dreamcatcher Inn of Sedona, listed at two dogs under 50 pounds at $30 per pet per night.

Away from lodging, size stops mattering

This is the good part, and it is why Sedona works for a big dog despite the lodging maze.

Nearly every Coconino National Forest trail in the Red Rock Ranger District takes a leashed dog of any size. Fourteen of them are ranked in Sedona's dog-legal trails.

Sedona Dog Park, at 950 Soldiers Pass Road, is the municipal fenced off-leash park with separate small and large dog areas, shade, benches, and water. No weight limit, and the large-dog side is the point.

Crescent Moon Ranch at Red Rock Crossing welcomes leashed dogs for a day-use fee of around $11, and gives you the Cathedral Rock reflection with water your dog can wade in.

Restaurant patios, subject to county health variances, take dogs regardless of size, and Tlaquepaque's shaded courtyards are the best of them. Twelve are listed in Sedona restaurants and patios that take dogs.

Two things that matter more than the weight limit

Unattended pet rules. Most Sedona properties prohibit leaving a dog alone in the room, and Matterhorn Inn and Sedona Village Lodge state it explicitly. Southwest Inn is listed as an exception. For a big dog this is the constraint that actually shapes the trip, because it rules out the dinner you were planning at a restaurant with no patio.

Heat, which does not care what your dog weighs. Sedona's average high runs 97 in July, and asphalt reaches 143 degrees at 87 degrees of air temperature. A large dog carrying a thick coat overheats faster, not slower. See Sedona paw safety and desert timing for dogs, and save a veterinary number from emergency vet, what to know.

Wider booking guidance is in questions to ask before booking a pet-friendly hotel and hotels with no weight limit, and you can search verified pet-friendly hotels.

Conclusion

Sedona is better for a big dog than its boutique-hotel reputation suggests, but only if you check the source rather than the listing.

Three practical conclusions. Hotel El Portal charges no pet fee, which makes it the outright best value if you can keep your dog company. Arabella at $27 per room rather than per pet is the best deal for two dogs and has its own dog park. And two properties on every existing Sedona list, Poco Diablo and Sedona Rouge, have been rebranded as Outbound Sedona and The Wilde Resort and Spa, so calling the old name gets you nowhere.

Fees, weight limits, room designations, and ownership all change, and the aggregator sites lag by months. Confirm directly with the property before you book. Then find the trail your pet will wag "yes" to.

Frequently asked questions

Which Sedona hotels have no weight limit for dogs? Sky Ranch Lodge, Arabella Sedona, Amara Resort and Spa, L'Auberge de Sedona, Matterhorn Inn, and Sedona Village Lodge all state no weight or size restriction on their own websites. El Portal's own page is returning a server error, so confirm that one directly. Confirm any of them when booking, since policies change.

What is the cheapest pet-friendly hotel in Sedona for a large dog? Hotel El Portal charges no pet fee at all, which Visit Sedona confirms. Ask about size limits and unattended-pet rules when you book, since the hotel's own pet page is currently unavailable. Sky Ranch Lodge at $25 per pet per night plus tax is the cheapest option that charges a fee.

Which Sedona hotel is best for two large dogs? Arabella Sedona, which charges $27 per night per room for up to two pets rather than per pet, and has an on-site dog park with carpet-free pet rooms located next to it.

Do Sedona hotels let you leave a dog alone in the room? Mostly no. Matterhorn Inn and Sedona Village Lodge prohibit it explicitly. Southwest Inn at Sedona is listed by third parties as permitting it, which is worth confirming directly.

Has Poco Diablo Resort closed? It has been rebranded. The property now operates as Outbound Sedona. Similarly, the former Sedona Rouge Hotel and Spa now operates as The Wilde Resort and Spa. Older pet-friendly listings still use the previous names.

Which Sedona hotels will not take an 80-pound dog? Andante Inn, Sedona Real Inn and Suites, and Dreamcatcher Inn of Sedona are all listed with a 50-pound cap. All three are good small-dog options.
